The Amadaowei of Adagbabiri Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, HRH Alaowei Okee has accused some state government appointees, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and local government vice chairman of been behind turning his community into illegal oil bunkering haven.

Narrating his experience last Wednesday, the paramount ruler revealed how a senior officer attached to the Bayelsa Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), a local government vice chairman and some top political appointees in the state approached him about two months ago in his palace to use his community as base for their illegal oil transactions.

The Royal Father hinted that he was offered to be paid Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) per truck of oil offloaded from the community’s water front but he refused to oblige them.

He posited that he refused their offer because apart from the financial benefits offered him, the community would suffer serious environmental oxidization; attract hoodlums with resultant cult clashes and unnecessary gun running activities that would bring about other security breaches.

He further stated that he discovered that the illegal oil barons resumed their trade two months after he turned down their offer.

HRH Okee said he had complained to the state Commissioner of Police, Commandant of NSCDC, Naval Commandant in the state who have all promised to look into the matter.

He added that he had also reported the development to the state’s Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo who also promised to relieve the appointees of their appointments if they are found culpable in the illegal trade.

The traditional ruler said despite his reports to the authorities, the business is going on unabated in the community and nothing has been done to protect him, forcing him to run away and go into hiding to avoid being killed like the paramount ruler of Kalaba community in Yenagoa Local Government Area.

According to him; “I have been receiving multiple calls from the appointees, promising to send their hit squad to snuff me off their way. They have rained insults and other threats on me.”

Reacting to the accusation of a senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) being one of those behind the illegal oil bunkering in Adagbabiri community, the command’s spokesman, ASCI Diri-Ogbere Solomon denied involvement of any of its men.

Diri-Ogbere confirmed that the Adagbabiri community paramount ruler had reported the matter and that the command is on top of the situation.

In his words: “The said Officer is not of the Bayelsa State command. We do not have such name.

“The command is on top of the situation. Discreet investigation has to be carried out to unravel the details of everyone involved, before we strike.
