ZONE 16: New AIG Harps On Professionalism . . . Promises To Build On Police-Public Relationship

The Nigerian Police Force, Zone 16, Yenagoa, has been assigned a new Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Paul Alifa Omata

The new AIG said his policy would be anchored on the Inspector General’s avowed repositioning of the Police on core professional responsibilities.

AIG Omata, who made the statement after a special welcome parade and introduction of some officers of the Zone, Monday, February 5, warned officers and men under the Zonal Command not to indulge in acts that would bring it to disrepute.

On the seeming intractable political impasse in Rivers State, the AIG said he would get reports from the State Commissioner of Police for a better understanding on how to get a lasting solution.

He called for synergy between the police and members of the public, urged the people to always report suspicious movements around them.

A statement signed by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, ZPPRO, CSP Ikwo Kevin Lafieghe, described the new AIG as pragmatic and a seasoned officer of repute, who had attended several courses and workshops.

It further stated that he had served meritously at various departments within the force.

She solicited the usual co-operation, support and understanding of the people of Bayelsa and Rivers for optimal performance.

The 8th Assistant Inspector General, AIG of the Zone enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on March 3rd, 1990 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP.

AIG Omata has served as Divisional Police Officer, DPO in ‘A’ Division, Lokoja, Area Commander, Area ‘L’, Lagos State, Deputy Commissiomer of Police, Department of Operations, Kwara State.

He was also Commissioner of Police, K9 section, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja. He is a graduate of Geography, from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is a native of Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

In their separate reactions to the resumption of duty of the new AIG, the Zonal Command Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC chairman, represented by the vice chairman, Alabo Nengi James, Bayelsa State command PCRC chairman and Zonal PRO, ArchBishop Jacob Akpiri and Dr. Okeima Ruth respectively, assured the AIG of their full support to make his stay successful and memorable.

They decried the level of insecurity in Rivers State and appealed to the AIG to use his wealth of experience to end the ugly situation.

Alabo James called for the activation of community policing system for easier policing efforts, stressing that only a community member can know and identify erring member.
