The incumbent senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Seriake Dickson may have some political hurdles to cross if the position of stakeholders in Ekeremor Local Government Area is to be held tight.
Interacting with Journalists in Yenagoa, Tuesday, September 6, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman for Ekeremor Local Government Area, Hon. Senator Eniekenemi Mitin, quoted Senator Seriake Dickson as saying that he was going to complete only the remaining 2 years of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to make up the Eight (8) years of Sagbama people in the senate and will bow out for Ekeremor people to take over.
“The statement was made in the public. Even the radio aired it. So, it is the time of Ekeremor people to produce the next Senator come 2023 and we are ready to vote massively to achieve that”.
“Seriake Dickson should respect his words. Let him not be carried away with the spec of office and renege on a gentle man agreement he personally entered”.
Mitin, who opined that APC having done the right thing by fielding a candidate from Ekeremor Local Government Area in the person of Hon Wilson Ayakpo, stressed that Ekeremor people will vote massively for APC.
According to him; “Outside any other consideration, Ekeremor people will sentimentality vote for the APC because it is the turn of Ekeremor to produce the next senator. I will continue to remind the Sagbama people, between the two Local Government areas, it is only Senator Heineken Lokpobiri that has represented Ekeremor in the red chamber from 1999 till date. No other Ekeremor person has become senator.
“While the story is different with the Sagbama block, if you take count, you will count up to five senators from Sagbama. Is it fair in politics? It is unjust and an oppression on Ekeremor people. We are saying no to that oppression”.
The LGA Party Chairman called on the people of Ekeremor to be resolute, committed and united in the ‘Ekeremor 2023 Senator Project’, adding that every true son and daughter of Ekeremor should pick up the political challenge to do the needful.
Also speaking, Gbenekeme James, APC Ward 7 chairman in Ekeremor Local Government Area reaffirmed that Senator Seriake Dickson pleaded with the people of Ekeremor for him to complete the remaining tenure of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to make up the 8 years of Sagbama block.
Gbenekeme, who also doubles as the Chairman, Ward Chairmen’s Forum Ekeremor LGA, wondered why zoning arrangement that has been a tradition between the two local government areas would be altered by one desperate man.
The Ward 7 party chairman said; ”I do not know why this serving senator is so desperate that something he said with his mouth, that he will go to complete the tenure of the present Deputy Governor who was the occupant of the Red Chambers then, is now telling Ekeremor people that he wants to go back to the senate. It simply means, he does not have integrity in politics. He is aware he is going to fail because nobody is going to work for him, knowing fully well that is their turn”.
It would be recalled that trouble started after the present senator, Senator Seriake Dickson from Sagbama Local Government Area insisted to contest for the Senatorial seat which has sparked off reactions from stakeholders, especially from Ekeremor block, rhetorically asking what has happened to the zoning arrangements between the two Local Government Areas.
