Late AIG Don Awunah Was An Exemplary Police Officer – Gov. Ortom

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has described late Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 16, Don Awunah as an exemplary police officer and a friend who gave his best to the service of his fatherland.

The Benue governor made the statement when he led the Benue State Executive Council to pay Condolence to the Awunah Family on Saturday, June 11th.

Gov. Ortom, who said the late AIG was committed to his policing duties, added that he sacrificed his pleasure because of his knack to fight crime and criminals.

He urged the serving officers to emulate the good works of the deceased.

“The deceased, AIG Don Awunah was a friend and examplary Police officer, who was committed to the cause of fighting crime and criminals.

“He was so committed that he sacrificed his pleasure for the cause he so believed in.

“Am urging all serving officers to emulate his sense of responsibility to duty. He was a good team player that always fills the gap,” Ortom eulogised.

In their separate speeches, the Inspector General of Police, who was represented by AIG Olatunji Akingbola of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Force Headquarters, Abuja and the Head of the Zone 16 delegation, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Mike Okoh eulogized the deceased as a thorough breed police officer with international policing experience.

According to a release by the Zone 16 Media Team, the traditional Police 21 gun shots rented the air to bid farewell to the departed police Sherrif who had spent 34 years serving his fatherland before his untimely demise at the age of 59 years.

The release further hinted that at the funeral Service in Tse Awunah Community of Gwer West Local Government Area, the entire Community was thrown into sorrowful mood as they wept uncontrollably to express their grief for a man they described as a pillar of support and statesman.

It stated that the AIG was finally intered after the regular police parade and salutes in line with the police tradition.

“The final Funeral rites climax after a service of songs in his honour, funeral mass, and the statutory 21 gun shots salutes to the deceased,” the release stated.

It would be noted that AIG Don Awunah was the AIG in charge of Zone 16 (Bayelsa and Rivers States) before his demise.

The remains of the late AIG were laid to rest in his Tse Awunah country home in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
