Igbo Youth Leader Gives Financial Support to Bedridden Bayelsa Journalist

South – South youth leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Chinedu Ugwa, has rendered financial support to ailing Yenagoa based journalist, Mr Austin Bodo.
Austin Bodo , who is the publisher of a local weekly tabloid, Creek News Weekly, has been bedridden for some months as a result of the ailment.


The veteran journalist is seeking financial aid from public spirited individuals, corporate organizations and government to enable him access medical treatment so that he can be on his feet again.

According to a source, apart from the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, which has rendered assistance to the sick journalist, no other help has come the way of the way of Bodo.

While presenting a cash gift of a N100,000 to the sick veteran journalist, Chief Ugwa, who is also the Director General, Unified Non-indigenes Association, Bayelsa State, said the gesture was as a result of his strong desire to touch lives in the society.


The youth leader, who was in company of the chairman of the NUJ, Bayelsa State Council and other members of the union, appealed to the Bayelsa State Government and privileged individuals to come to the aid of the veteran journalist to assist him get medical attention.

Responding to the kind gesture of the youth leader, Comrade Numonengi, thanked Chief Ugwa for identifying with the media family, and called on others to also assist the ailing veteran journalist.
In his response, the sick publisher appreciated the kind gesture of the youth leader for coming to his aid in his time of need and prayed God to replenish the purse of his benefactor.


Austin said, “I thank you so much. I thought all have forgotten me apart from my media family. It is only God that can replenish your purse for this show of love towards me.


“Since I fell sick, I have been praying that I don’t want to die so that people will come to sign my condolence register and write sweet tributes about me. I want people who love me to come to my aid now that I am alive, so that I can get on my feet again. Now, I can’t walk, but by the grace of God, I shall walk again and continue my service to humanity,” he said.
