A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Rear Admiral Lokosan Thomas (rtd), has said that the emergence of Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri is a reciprocation of his good governance in the State.
The Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri is the party’s sole gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election.
Lokosan, who made the statement Wednesday, April 12th, at the venue of the PDP gubernatorial primary election in Yenagoa, added that every good workman is entitled to his pay.
Buttressing his reason for joining the PDP, he said; “When the present governor came, I saw his efforts on reconciliation and bringing about peace and also, bringing back those who left the PDP.
“He did not discriminate against those who returned. That his acceptance and peace moves to see that the state is calm and peaceful endeared him the people.
Speaking on the general election coming up in November, he declared that; “Gov Douye Diri will be returned by Bayelsans votes. He will be victorious. Any internal wranglings is expected, like in every family setting. People disagree to agree.
“I have consulted and talked with Bayelsans widely, so I can confidently tell you that he will win the election.
“I don’t see any body that will give Gov Douye Diri any good fight from the opposition. That doesn’t mean we should rest on our oars but I don’t see anybody, because of the good work he is doing and again, bringing in everyone to the fold.
In a related development, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) State Publicity Secretary, Mr Ebiye Ogoli, has explained that the governor’s performance in the State made the party leadership and followers to endorse him as a sole candidate.
Ogoli, who described the governor’s performance as ‘beyond all imagination’, enjoined party members to remain committed and loyal at all times.
According to him; “As a party, the leadership and followers accessed the performance of His Excellency, the Governor, Senator Douye Diri and adjudged him to have done very well. He has performed beyond our wildest imagination.
“An opinion poll conducted by the party showed that more than ninety percent (90%) agreed that change should not be made for a team that is doing well.
The state Publicity Secretary disclosed that the governor’s Unequalled developmental strides that have touched the State’s three Senatorial Districts have endeared him to Bayelsans irrespective of party affiliation.
He stressed that the governor’s scorecard intimidated others to jettison the idea of picking up gubernatorial forms and not as rumoured in some quarters that the party shut its door against other people who were interested in contesting against him.
On his expectations come November 11th gubernatorial election, Ogoli said: “When a family is united, it is like fifty percent (50%) of the job is being done. In the last primaries, we had about 29 aspirants. As soon as they lost, most of them left the party to play the spoiler. But in this particular case, everybody is united, speaking with a voice. Am sure, he will emerge victorious.”
