The Director General of the Consolidated APC Support Group, COASUG, Hon Harrison Asuquo Sam has thumped up for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his suspension of a cabinet minister and head of government agency.

The minister and head of government agency, Dr. Betta Edu, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and Halima Shehu, Chief Executive Officer, National Social Investment Programme Agency, NSIPA, were suspended for alleged corrupt practices.

Hon Sam, described as unfortunate the ‘near image demaging’ ill conceived act of the top government functionaries that would have rubbed on the president if not for his quick reaction, to prove synics wrong of the C-in-C zero tolerance for corruption.

He thanked the president for his proactive measure in suspending top government functionaries and same time directing the anti graft agency to investigate and possibly prosecute offenders.

The DG opined that the president’s action has changed the narrative where corrupt government officials were always shielded from investigations and prosecution.

According to him: “It is very unfortunate that some cabinet members and high office holders in this government, kick-started the administration with massive corruption despite the claims that Mr. President is only appointing those he believes in and have confidence that they are corrupt free.

“But again, we give kudos to Mr. President for being so proactive in suspending and handing over the suspected corrupt officials to the anti graft agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.

“Unlike in the previous administration where allegations of corruption against government officials were given deaf ears and allowing massive corruption to strive.

“May God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, may God bless Nigeria.”

It would be recalled that the Federal Government through a press release signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Monday, January 8, has in line with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu avowed commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of the commonwealth of Nigerians, suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, from office with immediate effect.

The release further stated that the President has directed the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as one or more agencies thereunder.
