A Niger Delta based advocacy group, Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta, MOSIEND has called on Gen. Tompolo, King Tom Ateke and other Niger Delta ex – agitators to speak out against the continuous delay to re – constitute the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
MOSIEND in a statement signed by its National Vice President, Comrade Thompson Fouye and National Director of Mobilization, Alhaji Abubakar Amiago Brown and made available to newsmen, noted that the current silence amongst the ex – agitators is strange and worrisome, averred that visit of the Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio to Oporoza and Okochiri should have yielded the desired result.
The group said the call has become imperative in order for the former warlords to show genuine concerns on the hardship the delay in inaugurating the Board has caused the masses.
It charged the ex – agitators to issue a joint 7 Days ultimatum to the Federal Government to constitute the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The statement read; “Our appeal to Gen. Tompolo, King Ateke Tom, Chief Victor Ben as well other Niger Delta ex-agitators is to issue a joint 7-Days ultimatum to the Federal Government or Sen Godswill Akpabio concerning the re – constitution of the NDDC Board, if they are truly worried about the hardship the delay in the constitution of the board is inflicting on the masses.
“Their strange silence is generating disqueitness amongst groups who recognized their contributions in the struggle hitherto. The people of the region assumed that ordinarily the recent hobnobing between the former warlords and the Minister of Niger Delta Sen Godswill Akpabio, summing from his visit to Okochiri and subsequently Oporoza should have yielded tangible results order than getting them suddenly dumb and sleepy over matters that should agitate and aggravate their concern over the true and genuine welfare of their people.
“Of a truth, recent happenings show that the ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta lack the energy and synergy to collectively bargain a better deal for ourselves as a region.
“President Muhammadu Buhari should not be blamed for Akpabio’s selfishness, and the docility and i do not care attitude of our political leaders and Stakeholders.
“Any attempt to scrap NDDC will be faced with a stiff resistance. Akpabio is just trying to fly a kite. To us in MOSIEND, we know his antics and at the end, his efforts to scrap the Commission will be an exercise in futility.”
