Mrs Diri Tasks Parents on Children’s Upbringing

YENAGOA: The wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Dr Gloria Diri,has advised parents and teachers to inculcate moral values in the younger generations in to ensure they secure a better future.
Dr Diri who gave the advise at Peace Park, during the 2021 Children’s Day celebration, tagged; “The effect of Covid-19 pandemic on the total well being of the Nigerian child: The way forward”
The event, which witnessed a large turnout was organised by the Ministry of Social Development in collaboration with the office of the first lady.
Dr Diri lay emphasis on the necessity for social education to be taught at school, stating that the Covid-19 pandemic had exposed some children to sexual predators, and stressed the need for parents to adequately care for their young ones so as to ward off negative behaviour from their children.
She advised the young ones to focus on their education in other for them to achieve success in thier chosen careers.
“One of the major problems we have during the covid 19 was our children’s pride being taken away. Our daughters, I know you have been briefed on how to take care of yourselves, how to manage yourselves and how to be aware of your environment. Our parents, we want you to do more in caring for them, in watching over them and in taking care of their health, because, we have a society that is ready to destroy our children. Children, I want to encourage you, your priority should be your studies.
Also speaking, Mrs Faith Opuene, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, disclosed that part of the objectives of the prosperity administration is to provide quality education for the children in the state.
“In Bayelsa State, one of the objectives of Prosperity Government, is the provision of free quality education to our children, it is a fundamental foundation for economic and social development. I wish to assure you all that the commitment and determination of our prosperity government is to provide safety measures for the total well- being of our children in Bayelsa State can not be over emphasized.
Some of the children who participated in various competitions expressed gratitude to the first lady for organizing an event to celebrate them in the state and pray God to continue to bless all that concerns her.
They also applauded her for organizing the event for all the children in the state.
“Am very excited, because I never expected I will be part of today’s Children’s Day celebration organised by Her Excellency. I heard wives of previous governors used to organise it in Government House. That is why we call it miracle Children’s Day. We thank her for making this day a big success and we want to thank her for the prizes and gifts.
