YENAGOA: The Deputy Director General, Centre for Women Development (GCWD), Hon. Juliet Pulu, has described entrepreneurship as a catalyst to development which every country that intends to grow must embrace.

Hon. Pulu, who made the statement at the opening ceremony of a 2- week make- up training carried out by the Yenagoa Federated Youths Council in the State Capital, urged stakeholders to help in training one person each.

Commending the effort of the Youth body in empowering youngsters, she averred that; “For the first time in my life, I have seen young people coming togetter to support the female gender. It has always been the other way round. Always wanting to take advantage of them, luring them with money to take them to bed, but this time,I am seeing young men seeing the good in women and going out of their way to pay for their training and also getting materials available for them.”

She advised the trainees to take up the opportunity and give their best.

“Skill is very important in one’s life. It’s a means to an end, it helps you earn a living. This is not a right but an opportunity that should be maximized, so that the purpose will not be defeated.

“I want to encourage stakeholders in Yenagoa, let’s channel our funds into this laudable project by the Youths Council by supporting them financially so that more youths can be trained. If we do this systematically, we are eradicating poverty from our land,” she opined.

In his speech, the Yenagoa Federated Youths Council (YFYC) President, Comr. Ineife Perekosufa explained that the quest to change the narrative, made the Body to embark on skills that would create wealth to make the people richer.

Perekosufa noted that with the unwavering financial support from its members and few others, about 30 persons and still counting had undergone various training.

“When we came into office on December, 30th 2020, We agreed that we will engage our youths quarterly and we will train them and our tenure is three years, we decided to kick -start the training from our three months in office.

“Why we selected Shoe making, Shawarma and Make-Up skills is because, if you look closely these skills can create revenue for people going by the reality on ground.”

“The idea behind this training is just to create wealth and reduce criminality in our local government because we are the most affected local government in Bayelsa State.”

The Information Officer, Comrade Osagie Yigbem noted that the essence of the training is to enable Yenagoa Youths to be earners and not beggars.

He said; “As new generation leaders, we have turned out to carry this initiative to see how we will train Yenagoa Youths.”
