The office of the Bayelsa State Cash Transfer Unit of Federal Government Social Investment Programme has debunked a publication in some media houses with the caption “How Contractor Absconded with Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Zamfara Social Investment Funds” as false and misleading.

A statement by the Unit Head of the Bayelsa State Cash Transfer Unit Mrs. Tonbara Kenigbolo described the caption and certain details of the publication as misleading and an attempt to create unnecessary tension.

The statement debunked claims by the said publication that Mrs. Kenigbolo said one Mr. Henry, owner of Data Mining Firm absconded with monies meant for the most vulnerable and poor in the four States.

It explained that what was said during a town hall meeting organized by BANGOF in partnership with Africa Network for Environmental and Economic Justice(ANEEJ) for beneficiaries of the scheme in Yenagoa was that Data Mining failed to deliver on its mandate due to setback in logistics.

The statement further notes that as part of efforts to address the delay in payment, the Bayelsa office of the CCT wrote a protest letter to the National Social Investment Programme, Programme Office which led to the termination of the contract of Data Mining and the contracting of a new firm, Softcom.

She assured that the new contractor has received funds for the outstanding payments which she said will commence soon with shortlisted households getting at least fifty thousand naira cutting across 96 communities in Ekeremor, Southern Ijaw and Nembe.

The statement adds that Data Mining never visited Bayelsa, neither did the State Coordinator grant a press interview and urged the public to disregard the obvious lies and misinformation in the said publication.
