Malians Celebrate Military Take Over
1 min readThe streets of Bamako , Capital of Mali have been besieged by civilians and military men celebrating the ouster of the country’s leadership by the military.
After a successful coup, the military men arrested the country’s president, Mr Ibrahim Boubakar Keïta and the prime minister.
The coup came after series of protests by citizens calling for the resignation of the head of state.
The attempt to overthrow the government began in the early morning of Tuesday, when several military camps with mutinying soldiers fired shots, arresting civilians and military officials who were opposed to the planned coup.
It was also reported that citizens set fire on some government buildings.
The president, Mr. Keita was serving a second term in office, however ,his second coming was marred by widespread calls for him to resign and dissolve his government following allegations of corruption, mismanagement and deteriorating security owing to Jihad insurgency.
