Chairman of Akuko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Don Oteh Umoru, has stated that the era of Federal might is over as the people of the State will determine who governs them through their votes.
The chairman made the statement while fielding questions from newsmen after he had voted.
According to him, “The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party would win the election because he has performed well in his first tenure.”
When asked about his expectations from the election, he said, ” I expects everyone to be happy because the right choice has been made. They should celebrate their victory.
The chairman called on the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully, during and after the election.
Meanwhile, a member of the the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Godson Hayoeye , has accused security agents at Unit 02 Ward 8 of conniving with the Akuko Edo Local Government Area Chairman to manipulate the will of the people.
Barrister Godson, who said he is a Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, expressed displeasure with the failure of the security personnel to call the council chairman to order.
” The security agents have been aiding the Executive Chairman of Akoko Edo LGA, Hon Don Umoru taking him from one unit to the other. Each time he gets to a polling unit, the police will walk away.
“If APC man says anything, he will be asked to shut up’
” It is part of the guidelines that once you vote , you go back to your house. It is not the duty of the chairman to be moving from one polling unit to the other”, he pointed out.
Asked of his expectations, Barrister Godson said that his party would be victorious, adding that the chairman knew the electorate would vote for the APC, that is why he was moving around to manipulate voters.
