Association of Local Governments of Nigeria(ALGON) Rivers State chapter, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the Inspector General of Police to prevent a breakdown of law and order in Edo State.
This follows an alarm raised by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, that the hotel he lodged in Edo State is besieged by security agents.
Reacting in a statement signed by the Secretary, Hon Ben Eke, ALGON noted that the IGP would be held responsible, if any harm befalls Governor Wike.
The statement read, “ALGON wishes to state in very clear and unequivocal terms that the safety of His Excellency , Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State is of paramount concern to all well meaning people of Rivers State.
” We shall hold the Inspector General of Police, whose primary duty is to secure the lives and property of law abiding Nigerians responsible should any harm come to our Governor.”
The group noted that All Progressives Congress governors from Kano, Imo States, the Deputy Senate Speaker , Omo-Agege and other national leaders were in Edo to monitor the election, but wondered why the Rivers State Governor who is on similar mission would be subjected to such embarrassing treatment.
The chairmen further alleged there is a threat to Wike’s life as thugs and hoodlums recruited and mobilized by chieftains of the APC have besieged the Home Villa hotel in Benin City, where the governor had lodged.
