A resident of Eagle Island, Port Harcourt and one of the nominal complainant in the case of alleged burying of new born baby alive by suspected ‘yahoo’ boys in the area has raised alarm over plans by some powerful persons in the society to truncate justice.
The complainant, Alhaji Orlu Ibrahim Nyekachi in an interview with our Correspondent in Port Harcourt recently said except something is done urgently, the case may the usual Nigeria way.
He revealed that: “Available information to me is that some powerful people in the society are planning, so much,, putting efforts, putting all resources and pressure on the Police to release those suspected yahoo boys that were suspected to have buried a child alive in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt.
“I am calling on the Police since they have been professional in this case, since the matter began, to keep it up, be professional and dilegent in their job, and please not yield to pressure from powerful men of the society.
“They should do a thorough job and carry out investigation, since the child blood is crying for justice. I still have confidence in the Police to make sure justice is done to the child because the child is crying for justice and we will all put efforts to ensure the child gets justice.
“On that fateful day, I was in my house, I heard so much noise outside, I came out from my house. I saw men of PHALGA security watch and the Police with some boys they rounded up. I enquired what happened, when I got the story, I suggested we should all go to the Police station for Police to carry out investigation.
“We went to the station, when we went to the Police station, we all made statement, I made statement at the Azikiwe Police Division at Illabouchi. After making statement, the case was transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt where I made another statement and still ready to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion to see that justice is done.
“The Police should be professional by one, conducting autopsy on the baby to know the cause of the death. Secondly, to also get to know the mother of the child, how they got the child in the first place. If anybody who claims to be the mother of the child comes up, they should also carry out investigation on how to know if she gave birth to a child on that fateful day and what happened to the child.
“If the mother claim the child died in the hospital, the hospital should also feed us on what happened in the hospital, there should be a medical report too.
“If this people are found culpable in the course of investigation, they should be charged to court.”
Recall that some suspected ‘yahoo’ boys were arrested by men of PHALGA security watch and the Police for allegedly burying a new born baby alive at Andoni waterfront, Eagle Island last month.
