The retired Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG ) Friday Eboka, has urged the police high command to employ community policing and proactive measures to engender effective policing.
The former Police Chief made the statement while fielding questions to journalists during his send forth party, on Sunday, April 2nd, at the Bayelsa State Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.
He hinted that his style of relating with the grassroots and their leaders without any discrimination, assisted in making issues less knotty.
On his legacies while in service, he said; “They are too numerous to mention, having served meritoriously for thirty five (35) years. Those I work under and those I worked under are in a better position to assess me. I would not want to score myself or sing my praises. Let others do so.”
He urged serving officers and men to be upright and just in the discharge of their duties, adding that a mortgaged conscience cannot effectively and professionally carry out their duties.
Eboka, who excitedly hinted that he never regretted any action nor decision he took while in service, explained that his decisions were always professionally considered.
“I do not have anything to regret while I was in service. I did everything I did professionally. At every time, I took decisions with utmost sense of professionalism because I did my postings according to the individual’s capacity and experience.
“I sometimes also did my postings in management meetings, where subordinates are consulting and allowed to make contributions.
“My target at times like that is achievable goals and who will deliver, not about religious nor ethnic background. I try doing the right thing at the right time.”
He appealed to members of the public to always co-operate with the Police by giving it the necessary clue needed to unravel mysterious offences.
