Violence, Disrespect To Elders Is Alien To Ekpeye Culture- Ekpeye High Chief

The people of Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality in Rivers State, Nigeria , have been reminded that violence and disrespect to elders are alien and to its culture .
High Chief Salvation Ezegwogwo, Ukaleaome 1 of Igbuduya Kingdom, made the remarks
during a wrestling fiesta hosted by him in his country home Ogbele community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He called on the youths to desist from acts that would hinder development in the community.

He further explained that his reason for hosting the fiesta is to rekindle the spirit of sportsmanship and also to make the youths appreciate their culture, amongst others.

“Youths should shun acts of violence that could be inimical to development. Disrespect to elders is also alien to our culture.”

“I do not host the fiesta because I have too much money, but because our culture should not be forgotten by our youths”, he quipped.

He charged the female youths to go for trades and skills that would provide a source of livelihood for them, adding that being contented with one’s Secondary School Certificate may pose some unforeseen but avoidable challenges in the future.

He further advised the people to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, adding that true happiness can only strive where there is peace.

Earlier, the community Chairman, Elder Chinedu C. Ake thanked Chief Ezegwogwo for his magnimity in hosting the fiesta.

Ake called on the people to continue to respect constituted authorities at all levels. He added that Ekpeye has a rich culture that could serve tourists attraction and serve as a source of revenue .

In his contribution, the wrestling commander, Okodu Tom called for synergy amongst all tier of government in the community to promote the culture.

He thanked participants, the host – High Chief Salvation Ezegwogwo whom he described as a godly philanthropist, guests and the community leadership.

Highlights of the event was gift presentation by Ocho Eke Royal family Women, Agwolo Family Women, Ugwushita Age Grade.

High Chief Salvation Ezegwogwo, the Managing Director Gudlinks Services Nigeria Limited gave cash donations to the wrestling winners, the families and others.

It will be recalled that he attracted medical outreach to his country home from abroad some months back
