The chairman of Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Comrade Olomo Dimie has warned that labour would not allow the Nigerian federal government to continue to close down the tertiary institutions in the country.

Dimie gave the warning while fielding questions from journalists during the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) organized sympathy strike, Tuesday, July 26th, adding that the government functionaries can not continue to look the other way because their children school abroad.

He stressed that ASUU’s demand is not only important to the growth of the education sector but fundamental, having in mind the appalling situation of the economy presently.

The chairman hinted that the academic staff in Nigeria are the lest paid in Africa, stressing that the strike is anchored on renegation of agreement entered with the federal government and not on fresh issues as propagated by government apologists.

The chairman of the Bayelsa state Service Civil Joint Negotiation Council explained that the country would never be allowed to degenerate to an abysmal point of no return, hence the labour union has taken it upon itself to lend its voice.

He called on the federal government to go back to the negotiating table and do the needful
