We’ll Reduce Activities Of Port Vandals To Minimum – CP, Eastern Ports Command . . . Command Committed To Fight Sea Piracy

The Commissioner of Police, Eastern Ports Command, CP Tami Peterside, has vowed to bring the activities of Port vandals in her command to the barest minimum.

Peterside who made the vow while interacting with members of the Energy Maritime Reporters Corp, EMR on Monday, November 15th in her office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, averred that her proactive policing style had helped in curtailing youth restiveness and undue agitation.

The ports security Boss listed her quarterly meetings with host communities, as one of her proactive measures to check cases of possible protests.

She stated that to tighten security and to put to an end to the incessant moving out of stolen goods, only marked taxis are allowed access in and out of the ports, especially at nights.

On her take concerning the stolen goods, the CP said; “The Command will go after receivers of stolen items from the port.”

The CP informed the EMR that beam vandalism is peculiar to Port Harcourt ports alone for now, adding that Warri, Onne and Calabar ports are safe and intact for . She further stated that the arrested suspects are already in court, remanded in prison custody.

On the surge in sea piracy, Peterside said her command has acquired several gunboats that would be deployed soon to checkmate sea piracy.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of Energy Maritime Reporters Corp, EMR Comrade Martins Giadom, said the essence of the interactive session was to create friendship that would be of mutual help to EMR and the command.

Giadom noted that EMR would be an information asset to NPA, IOCs and sector stakeholders in their reportage of energy and maritime sector of Nigeria’s economy, and strategic partners on port security.

He stated that holding seminars on port security and safety, will create a better working partnership.

The EMR chairman commended the gallantry of CP Evelyn Peterside and men of the Eastern Command on recent arrest of port vandals and wheat thieves in ports under the command, added that need for regular interactions between EMR and the command be encouraged to achieve common goals by appreciating areas of necessary support

Enumerating the importance of EMR, the chairman said it cannot be overemphasized, given that maritime is a major revenue earner for government to run the economy

He stated that all governmental activities supposed to be adequately reported accordingly.
