Rights Group Condemns Gang- Rape of Female Student in Hostel

A civil rights group, Center for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has condemned the rape of a female undergraduate student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by three male students of the institution.
The rights group, which said the rape took place in a hostel in the institution, said two suspects have been arrested in connection to the rape.
Executive Secretary of the body, Comrade Prince Wiro, in a statement, commended the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ozo- Mekuri Ndimele and the President of the Student Union Government (SUG), Comrade Destiny Omunakwe for ensuring the arrest of the suspects and handing them over to the police.
The group also called on the police to carry out a thorough investigation with a view to bringing the culprits to book.
It was gathered that due to the intervention of the group in the matter, two of the suspects and the victim were taken to the office of the Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, where confessional statements were made.
The group said, It is a clear case of gang rape. There are indications that such thing usually take place in hostel C. The suspects also confessed creating hole in the room of the wall to peep female students they have sex with during the act.
The group also advised students to concentrate on their studies and shun acts that are detrimental to their well being and society generally.
