The opening ceremony of the Igbu Orlukwor Wrestling season may not be an annual traditional ritual, as His Royal Highness, Eze Prince Ike Ehie JP, Eze Igbu Orlukwor II, Eze Ehie II, promised to harness the potentials embedded in wrestling sport.
The King, who made the promise during the event, Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Odiabidi Community, administrative headquarters of the kingdom, hinted that gone are the days when wrestling is seen as a sports for the locales.

He urged the youths to avail themselves of the opportunity to explore the potentials and benefits in the ancient sport.
The Igbu Orlukwor Monarch advised the youths to eschew any form of bitterness, acrimony while indulging in the wrestling bout, since according to him; ‘wrestling is a unifying sport that engenders peace and unity and not the other way round.’
He called on investors to explore the opportunities nature has provided through the kingdom’s ecosystem, tourist spots and potentials, assuring them of adequate security.
The Chairman of the occasion, High Chief Salvation Ezegwogwo JP Uka-ame I of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation charged the youths to always respect and obey constituted authorities at all levels.

He averred that only a disciplined and responsible person can understand the ancient mystery of wrestling.
The oil and gas mogul thereafter put smiles to people’s faces as he donated one million naira to each kingdom of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation, likewise sum to Odiabidi Community and Ogbele Community youths and others. While, each community in Igbu Orlukwor would get Two Hundred Thousand Naira.
Highlight of the event was the traditional washing of feet of the royal fathers and other dignitaries.
