ILLICIT DRUGS: Igbu Orlukwor Monarch To Partner With NDLEA

The Igbu Orlukwor O’ Group Kingdom Monarch, His Royal Highness, Eze Prince Ike Ehie JP, Eze Igbu Orlukwor II, Eze Ehie II ,has assured the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, of his readiness to partner with it to curb the menace of illicit drugs in the society.

Eze Ehie, who gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the NDLEA Area Commander, Ahoada Area Command and his team on Friday, October 18, 2024, to the Igbu Orlukwor liaison office at Ahoada Town, acknowledged the menace and negative effects of illicit drugs on the youths especially.

Igbu Orlukwor O’ Group Kingdom is among the seven kingdoms that make up the Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality of Rivers State, Nigeria.

He stated that the society will be doomed except something urgent and drastic is done to put a stop or curb the patronage, and applauded the sensitization strategy adopted by the agency to fight against the use of hard drugs.

The royal father further suggested that exposing sponsors and dealers would discourage and cut the spread and channels of exchange, and thanked the Commander and his Team for their untiring efforts to save the society.

He appealed that the issue of relocating the agency’s headquarters should be jettisoned, as according to him, ‘he will use his office to correct some of the listed challenges the agency is facing in the area.’

Earlier, the Area Commander, Ahoada Area Command, Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Naziru Abdullahi said they were in the palace to congratulate and familiarize with the King and also, to solicit for a partnership through the agency’s new adopted sensitization strategy.

He explained that initially the agency policy was anchored on investigation, arrest and prosecution, adding that it decided to evolve a new approach to the fight against illicit drugs by embarking on sensitization campaigns to schools, worship centres, town hall meetings, public places, social gatherings, etc

The Area Commander revealed that the impact of their activities have not really been felt in the area due to operational challenges the agency is facing, such as staff accommodations, operational vehicles, information from the people among others.

He assured the King of getting positive results if logistics is provided by the authorities and supported by spirited individuals.

Other dignitaries in session with the Eze Igbu Orlukwor were; High Chief Mathias Ogbugo, Chairman, Orlukwor Traditional Rulers & Chiefs Council, Chief Ngozi Otuogwu, Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Austine Orlu, Palace Secretary, Prince Echeyeme Sunday, S.A to the King and the Head, Information and Documentation Section to the Igbu Orlukwor O’ Group Kingdom King.
