Sustainable Power, Gov Otu’s Priority, Say Commissioner

The newly appointed commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy in Cross River State, Mr. Eka Williams has promised to turnaround the power sector in the state, disclosing that it is one of the priorities of the governor Bassey Ot u’s led administration.
He stated this during his official resumption of duties at the Power and Renewable Energy ministry, yesterday in Calabar.
The commissioner, who was received by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Uffono Gabriel Atta, alongside other members of staff and well-wishers, also assured that the training and retraining of staff will be given the required attention.
Addressing personnel of the ministry, Eka said no stone will be left unturned towards repositioning the ministry to make it more functional and result orientated.
He solicited the cooperation of the workers in order to succeed, revealing that the ministry remains top in the priority of the governor.
“What I expect of you is just cooperation so that we can succeed together. Everybody here is very important.
“His excellency has told me that the core of his administration will be sustainable Power and Energy. You know him; he is a man of his words. We cannot afford to fail him. By the grace of God, I know we can turn around this place and make the power sector functional in line with the policy thrust of this administration. What we do here is very technical that requires that all hands must be on deck to succeed”, Eka said.
While calling for team work among members of staff, the commissioner assured the workers of periodic training to keep them abreast with modern trends and international best practices in the power sector.
He advised the staff to eschew all manner of malingering, gossip and economic sabotage, adding that there will be no dull moment in his leadership.
According to him, “No knowledge is a lost. You should be able to abreast your selves with technologies and equipment. From time to time, we would be doing periodic training and everybody will be involved; even the gateman, so that everybody will have an idea of what we do here in order to avoid vacuum. Except the one that is very technical that requires an expert.
“One thing that I do not like is gossip; even though it is inherent in every human being. But, lets’ try and minimize it as much as you can; reduce the volume.”
The commissioner vowed to be open and transparent in his stewardship; charging the staff to reciprocate the gesture in their official duties.
Speaking on behalf of other staff, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Uffono Gabriel Atta, warmly welcomed the new commissioner; assuring him of the needed support by all to succeed.
He said the workers’ expectations from the commissioner were quite high in view of his track record of resilience, ingenuity and accomplishments, especially in the private sector.
Highlight of the event was a guided tour of the ministry’s premises led by the permanent secretary.
