We Award Scholarships Amongst other Support – ESG Chairman

The Engenni Support Group Chairman, Lordman Innocent Obediah, has stated that the body was formed to ameliorate the suffering of indigent students of the Engenni Ethnic nation of Ahoada West Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

Obediah made the explanation on Wednesday, June 14th, during the grand finale of the 37th annual festival of the Edagberi Betterland Communities, while chatting with newsmen.

According to him, the group has assisted many indigents to actualize their dreams of acquiring higher education and also facilitated the provision of social amenities within the ethnic nation.

He said that the group is self funded through individual members’ contribution, adding that His Royal Highness, Amb Sunny Jacob Ubele, Omomavie I Ibe Engenni, has been the only person that assists the group financially.

The group chairman further explained that the membership of the group cuts across the entire ethnic nation and not limited to Edagberi Betterland Communities (JK4), adding that same applies to beneficiaries.

He opined that more would be achieved if people come together in love to give a helping hand to the less privileged

He said;”The beneficiaries are spread across the entire ethnic nation and even beyond. We assist whosoever that genuinely comes to us for assistance.

“Outside the award of scholarship, we also assist in infrastructural developments. Presently, we are working on the community bus stop. When our highness was recognized through an Award as the best traditional ruler South South, we co-ordinated and made the event colourful. We also render other numerous helps to people.”

The group chairman, who is also the Edagberi Betterland Communities Chief Security Officer (CSO), urged the youths to always be peaceful and focus on what will elevate their standard of living in order to be relevant and reckon with in the future.

In a related development, the Secretary of the Edagberi Betterland Communities Women Group, Mrs Tina Joel, has said that the Communities have not had it so good as in the present leadership of Omomavie I Ibe Engenni.

Mrs Joel, who is also a woman Chief, hinted that the women chiefs are held in high esteem in the kingdom and that specs of office are not denied them.

She explained that being a Chief comes with responsibilities from your immediate family to the entire community. The woman Chief listed high sense of responsiveness, much self restraint, respect and the capacity to uphold justice.

Chief Joel hinted that they take charge of widows empowerment in the community and that the girl-child is specially taken care of through some programmes to advise and discourage them from getting involved in social vices.
