The outgoing Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 16, Ayim Egong, has said that he has no regrets to have served in the Nigerian Police.

The Zonal command head celebrated his 60th birthday, grandson’s birth and send forth after a meritorious service in the force.

Mr. Ayim stated this on Sunday, October 2nd, at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

In his farewell speech, the AIG stated that if given another opportunity in life, he would rather enlist into the Nigeria Police again than doing any other job.

He thanked God for His grace and faithfulness all through his career as an officer in the midst of many challenges and obstacles that he surmounted.

The retiring officer urged serving officers and the general public to hold onto God in their daily endeavours, saying, “God has always been with me after praying. He has protected and guided me aright. I know He can do it for you too.”

The outgoing Assistant Inspector General of Police advised officers and men of the Zone to be wary of the antics of the politicians, stressing that they should only obey commands of an authority than putting their jobs on the line this electioneering season.

Ayim was thankful to the governors of Rivers and Bayelsa States for their co-operation, immense assistance to the zone, and appealed that such hand of fellowship be extended to his successor.

Earlier, the Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ben Okolo, who spoke on behalf of himself and his Rivers State counterpart, described the event as special for officers and men that make up the zonal command because of the honour bequeathed on the outgoing AIG.

He hinted that the AIG is a delight to work with, with a proven leadership charisma in his police supervisory responsibilities, opining that his retirement is not for a total rest but another opportunity to continue his contribution to the society.

The Bayelsa State Compol prayed that God Almighty continue to preserve and give him desired fulfillment.

Responding to questions on the differences among the AIGs she had worked with, the Zonal Police Public Relation Officer (ZPPRO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ikwo Lafiaghe said all have their uniqueness.

Ikwo explained that one legacy, outside the professional ethics her Principal is known for, is humility, adding that her boss hospitality is legendary.

She advised her colleagues to emulate the outgoing Assistant Inspector General of Police to serve the public better.

The outgoing AIG is said to be born on October, 1st, 1962 to the family of Late Nshor Matthew Ayim Asho of Adop, Nwang Ekajink in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Ayim enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in March, 1988 from the Police Academy, Kaduna Annex.

He had served under several Division of the Police in different states. Until his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police and before his posting to Zone 16, he was the Commissioner of Police Administration in the Department of Finance and Administration, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He had attended several leadership courses and workshops, which include; Leadership Courses, Shere Hills, Jos, Advance Detective Course, Jos, Unit Commander’s Conversion Course, AC/DC Investigation Course and Strategy Leadership Course.

Ayim has bagged many awards due to his contribution to humanity, philanthropic services and peace maintenance. He is married with children.
