BAYELSA PDP PRIMARY: One Youth Feared Dead . . . Fmr Commissioner Condemns Killing In Ogbia Town

One youth is said to have lost his life in today’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary election to choose candidates for the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
The incident which was reported to have occurred in Ogbia Town, the headquarters of Ogbia Local Government Area of the state during the accreditation of the delegates, was said to have caused the suspension of the process abruptly.
An eyewitness account has it that trouble started when the names of the 3 delegates from ward 13 were said to be fake, which resulted to a shouting bout between the council chairman, Hon Ebinyo Marvin Turner
and a former council boss, Hon Richard Ibegu
The acclaimed witness who craved anonymity further stated that supporters of an aspirant forced themselves into the council secretariat, venue of the primary election.
According to him; “In the melee that ensued, an unknown gunman jumped through the fence and shot the deceased. I can categorically tell you that it’s not the Police.”
Meanwhile, an aspirant for the Ogbia Federal Constituency, Bayelsa State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daniel Iworiso-Markson, has stated that nobody’s life is worth taking for any political office.
Iworiso-Markson in a statement released in Yenagoa, Sunday, May 22nd, described the killing of Michael Isaiah during the State Assembly primaries of Ogbia Constituency I, as barbaric and sad.
He called on security agents to go after the killers and their desperate sponsors, insisting that those responsible must not go unpunished.
The former Commissioner for Information, while expressing deep sadness over the incident, commiserated with the family of the deceased and assured them that justice will be served in the matter.
His words: “Violence is not our culture. Personally, I do not subscribe to violence. That is why all through my consultations and reach out with stakeholders and delegates I made it clear that I will not do anything to undermine the peace and unity in Ogbia.
“It is indeed very sad and I call on security agents to do everything possible to arrest and prosecute those behind it. I also sympathize with the bereaved families over this unavoidable loss.”
