An aspirant for the Rivers State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr Honest Benson, has said he would give quality representation for his people if given the opportunity.

The aspirant for the Ahoada East Constituency 1 in the House for the 2023 assembly election, made the pledge during his formal declaration on Sunday, April 24th in his country home, Odiemerenyi.

Benson explained that to give quality representation, he would hold frequent Town Hall meetings with his constituents to know their needs and challenges before initiating or voting on bills.

According to him, his grassroots background would be an added advantage as a lawmaker because he is closer to the people and know their challenges.

Benson also said he would be a servant-leader’ different from what is currently obtained practice where elected legislators stay away from their constituents till the next election.

He assured his constituents of initiating sustainable youths development programmes and free adult education scheme if elected.

Benson said: “My tenure as your legislator will usher in an unprecedented change in the narrative of the way of doing things and the kind of results you have been getting.

“I will run an inclusive people based style of representation as a servant leader. I will not concur or support any bill without holding a Town Hall meeting to get your input as critical stakeholders.

“Again, in the past it has been a lopsided skills acquisition programmes but mine will be a sustainable youths development programmes and free adult education scheme. An uneducated adult is more or less a deformed person. That is no longer acceptable. Our youths have to be trained on the basis of needs.”

Benson called for understanding amongst all aspirants, adding that the game be played according to the rules.

He thanked the LGA Party leadership for their fatherly advise, urging them not to succumb to any form of blackmail that would make them derail from their fatherly stand.

In their remarks, stakeholders of Ward 11 where the aspirant comes from, called on the leadership of the party to give the ticket to Benson.

According to them, the ward has been marginalized for too long and appealed that the mistake of the past be corrected on justice, equity and fair play.

One of the Stakeholder, Elder Fente Ogboda argued that amongst the Wards that makes up Constituency I, that it is only Ward 11 that has not produced an elected legislator or any other office.

Other stakeholders that spoke during the event, Hon Wisdom Emejim, Elder Eugene Ordu, Hon Prince Noble and Mrs Patience Egbelu made same observation and appealed that the seeming marginalization be corrected to give Ward 11 a sense of belonging.

Mrs Egbelu who further described the state assembly hopeful as a core grassroot man that has helped the in his little way, adding that he has been instrumental to party victories in past elections due to his ploitical doggedness.

They noted that the Ward has qualified personalities to man any position, like the aspirant that declared his intention to run for the state assembly and many others.
