The wife of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr (Mrs) Gloria Diri has enjoined Bayelsans especially and Nigerians to make sacrifices and shun acts capable of causing destruction of lives and property as the country prepares for the next year general election.

Dr Diri made the call on Sunday, April 17th, while fielding questions from journalists in Sampou, Kolokuma/ Opokuma Local Government Area.

She noted that just like Jesus demonstrated his love by sacrificing his life for mankind, Bayelsans and Nigerians should imbibe the spirit of sacrifice for the good of society.

The First Lady expressed the optimism that Bayelsans would work together in unity to ensure that the political process is violence-free and successful.

She said: “This political season, I want to encourage every Bayelsan that love is the ultimate. Let us shun all vices that will cause trouble during this period. Let all of us work together and ensure that the process is going to be such that everyone will be happy .

“Let there not be violence that will destroy, kill or maim any person. With love and unity, the process can be successful.”

The First Lady also called on the political class to give women more opportunities in governance.

Mrs Diri, who said women are sacrificing and caring, noted that women have sacrificed enough for the male folks and it was time for them to be given a chance in governance.

She advised women to support whoever they need to support for the good of society.

Her words, “I still want to urge politicians, endeavour to give women a chance. Women have been sacrificially giving out to you.

“To every woman out there, it is a season of love, share love, celebrate love and victory will be for everyone of us.

While calling on Bayelsans to emulate Christ, love one another and make sacrifices, the Bayelsa First Lady urged the elite to give hope to the less privileged by reaching out to them during the Easter period.

According to her; “Jesus has paid the price sacrificially, laying down his life for us. Today, we are celebrating his resurrection, so, you can also sacrifice for somebody. Sacrificing for somebody’s happiness, somebody’s good. And giving somebody a reason to smile.

“That is what Jesus did for us, he gave us a reason to live again, a reason to be hopeful. A reason to know that Bayelsa can be better, a reason to know that Nigeria and the world can be better, if only we can love one another like Jesus did.”
