Shun Distrust, Disunity , Bayelsa NUJ Chairman Charges Members . . . As NUJ Inaugurates A New Chapel

The Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, Comrade Samuel Numonengi, has charged members of the Union to shun actions capable of causing disunity amongst them but rather work together for its growth.
Comrade Numonengi gave the charge on Wednesday, March 23rd, at the Ernest Ikoli Press Center, Ekeki, Yenagoa when he inaugurated a new chapel, the United Correspondents Chapel (UCC).
While performing the ceremony, Numonengi enjoined members of the chapel to work together for the growth of the chapel and wellbeing of members.
He stressed that much rancour is caused by the lack of trust amongst members and disunity in chapels, advising UCC to refrain from such and speak with one voice, if the chapel intends to be the strongest in the NUJ.
In his words; “I want to say that if everybody of this chapel unite and agree with one voice and say yes to ensure the chapel move forward, you will be one of the best in NUJ”.
He assured members of the chapel that he will do everything to support and work with the chapel, adding that the chapel would get whatever it deserves.
“Through out my stay as chairman of NUJ, I want to promise you that everything every other chapels get, be it big or small, you are going to benefit from it,” he assured.
In his charge to the newly inaugurated executive members, the number one Bayelsa Journalist called on them to work together, calling on the chapel chairman to ensure he works with his entire exco in terms of decision making.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the new Chapel, Akam James, thanked the NUJ chairman and his team for the inauguration, promising not to betray the confidence reposed on him.
“I want to first of all thank God for making this day a reality.This day has finally come, we have been inaugurated as a Chapel. We will work together and as the NUJ Chairman has advised. And as the chapel name implies, we will be united to see that we all succeed.”
In his vote of thanks, the chapel Ex-Officio, Ebiowei Lawal, thanked the NUJ chairman for ensuring that United Correspondent becomes a chapel.
Lawal further assured that the opportunity given to the chapel will not be misused, nor cause to bring disrepute or impugn on the integrity and reputation of the council, rather bring good things that will attract favours to the chapel.
He also commended the Co‐ordinator, International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Roland Elekele for the active role he played in ensuring the inauguration took place and all members for their untiring effort for the successful event.
Those Inaugurated were: Akam James – Chairman, Joy Emmanuel – Vice Chairman, Chris Mark – Secretary, Amgbare Ekaunkumo – Treasurer, Jide Dominic – Financial Secretary, Kenechukwu Obiajuru – Auditor, Akparawa Okon Bassey Williams – Assistant Secretary and Ebiowei Lawal – Ex-Officio.
The United Correspondents has been operating for more than 10 years before its inauguration. The group is comprised of national and regional newspapers.
