The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman of Ahoada East Local Area of Rivers State, Hon Salvation Ezegwogwo, has advised party leaders to visit their wards and communities as a way of identifying with the grassroot.
Hon Ezegwogwo who gave the advise while fielding questions from journalists at Port Harcourt International Airport on Monday, opined that it is an error for party leaders to only identify with members during elections.
He stressed that feeling the impulse of party members by visiting is strategic and would go a long way to sell the party and its candidates during elections proper.
His words; “The party leaders at the LGA level should visit their wards and communities to identify with the grassroot.
“Election is done at the grassroot. You do not act like they mean nothing to you today and feel you can convince them to vote for you tomorrow. It is a hard sell”.
According to him, leadership is taking responsibility for the development of the party, adding that it would be at the party’s disadvantage if people are identified with only during elections.
Speaking further, the LGA Party helmsman said; “Being a leader is not just about answering the name but acting to the name. Leaders should take charge and lead by example. They should do things that will not affect the party adversely, especially during elections”.
The LGA Party Chairman further called on the Ward Chairmen to sensitize newly registered members and those that have theirs damaged or lost, to go for their Personal Voters Card (PVC) at INEC headquarters in Ahoada Town.
“Voters registration is ongoing at the INEC office. I urge the Ward Chairmen to mobilize our members that have either lost or damaged their PVC to go for renewal.
“Also, new members that just gotten to the voting age should be mobilized too. Generally, party members should avail themselves of the window as opened by the electoral umpire”.
He thanked the party leaders, critical stakeholders and members in the LGA for their tremendous support and co-operation for the South South leader and Minister for Transportation, His Excellency, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Hon Ezegwogwo called for loyalty, coupled with prayers for the presidential ambition of the leader to be realized in due time.
