The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16, Yenagoa, Austin Agbonlahor has said that his career as a police officer was tasking, being a family man

The AIG made the assertion during his birthday/send-off ceremony on Sunday, August 29th, at Government Banquet Hall, Yenagoa.

Agbonlahor said what makes the career more tasking is the many times he seemed to have abandoned his family because of his duty.

He stressed that it was always difficult when professional responsibilities pitches one with family responsibilities, adding that he is happy now that his family will have him fully and at all times.

When asked if he would join politics, he said: “I can not decide that now. I will have to consult with my family first before taking any decisions. That doesn’t foreclose my being a partisan politician in due course.”

The retiring AIG charged officers and men to always exhibit professionalism at all times, noting that his greatest worry was when six officers were killed and two beheaded in Rivers State by unknown gunmen.

He thanked his officers and men for their respect and co-operation, urging that his successor be accorded same.

The retiring AIG further thanked the media and other critical stakeholders in the business of crime fighting.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. has frowned at the killing of police officers who are legitimately carrying out their constitutional duties.

In his goodwill message during the occasion, the deputy governor noted that every police man killed, makes more criminals available.

He enjoined the citizens to respect all police officers, whether on or off duty.

The Bayelsa State number two citizen thanked the outgoing AIG for laying a solid foundation in the zonal command, wondering if the successor would be able to handle or build on it.

He further pointed out that one legacy the AIG left was that the issue of “Unknown or known gunmen” was not witnessed in Bayelsa State.
