Boat Mishap Claims Five Lives In Taraba

TARABA: A pastor, Rev. Shedrack Bako of the Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria and four other persons were drowned in a boat mishap on Tuesday, August 10th.
Our Correspondent learnt that the incident occurred in one of the major rivers in the state, the ill fated journey started from Mareniwo village in Ardo-Kola Local Government Council to a village in Karim-Lamido Council.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdulahi Usman, said the boat was carrying 14 passengers when it capsised.
Usman further stated that nine of the passengers were successfully rescued, while the other five were not found.
He revealed that a marine patrol was still on the high sea searching for remains of the victims.
The PPRO could not confirm whether they would still be found alive or not.
Another person who also confirmed the incident, was the state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Isaiah Magaji, who said that he is aware of a boat accident, but could not ascertain the calibre of persons involved.
According to him: “I am yet to get a clear picture of the incident because the available report is scanty. So, I am still expecting detailed reports of what actually happened and who are involved.”
The incident is said to have left members of the church in a sad mode as the affected cleric who is fondly called ‘man of God’, was said to have left behind several admirers.
