The Ministry of Niger Delta has accused Ekpeye communities along the East/ West road of causing flooding in the area.
The lead engineer representing the ministry, Engr. Austin, made the accusation during a fact-finding tour of the road in company of some Non-government Organisations (NGO)and stakeholders.
Engr Austin complained that an Ekpeye titled chief, High Chief, Dr Patricia Ogbonnaya blocked some culverts in front of her fish farm, which according to him made the free passage of water impossible.
He added that some communities also dump refuse and other waste products in the canal , which he said, had blocked the ‘catch point’.
The ministry engineer reiterated that except the people desist from such acts, the same flooding will be experienced continually.
He further explained that the depression seen along the road is as a result of the rush after the 2012 flood by Setraco to cover some milestone.
He appealed to the people to be patient, assuring that the areas pointed out will be addressed accordingly.
Though, our investigation revealed that the blocked culverts in front of the High Chief’s farm has been cleared by her.
