ABUJA: The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested two Federal Road Safety Corps officials for certificate forgery.

Officials of FRSC arrested were; Edwin Onyuwe and Achigili Ogoli. Also arrested were two members of the certificate forgery syndicate, Sunday Okpara and Abdulrahman Razak.

BochNews gathered that their arrest was based on a petition by Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, to the Commission, notifying it that the two Corp officials had tendered forged B.Sc. degrees in Public Administration, with fake statements of result from it.

Prior to their arrest, the corps had contacted the university to ascertain the authenticity of the certificates and the institution confirmed that the said certificates were forged.

Though ICPC, in the course of investigation, found that the two FRSC officials were students of the Distance Learning Programme of the university, but could not graduate due to poor results, as documents from the university showed they had multiple carry-overs in the courses registered.

This situation prompted them to acquire the allegedly forged certificate through the syndicate to present to their organisation for upgrade of their cadre.

It was further revealed that N430,000 was paid to the syndicate by the duo for the forgery, with Onyuwe paying N230, 000 while Ogoli paid N200, 000.

One of the culprit, Razak, claimed to be a printer, told ICPC operatives that he used an original certificate from the university obtained from a friend to perfect the forgery.

Other members of the syndicate at large includes; Usman Danjuma, Uchenna Ifeonu and Matthias Ibitiye

The ICPC hinted that the suspects will be prosecuted at the end of investigation. It further revealed that the petition by the Corps Marshall is part of the collaboration between ICPC and FRSC to weed out corruption from the Corps.
