The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Zone 16, CSP Ikwo Lafieghe, has reiterated the need for members of the public to encourage and support the Nigeria Police for effective policing.

Lafieghe, who made the reminder during an exclusive chat with Boch News Online, advised that people should endeavour to safeguard their privacy and loved ones since security is a collective responsibility of all citizenry.

Her words; “Security is a collective responsibility. Endeavour to stay safe by safeguarding your own privacy, as well as safety of your loved ones.

“The Nigerian Police is poised to serving you better, all we need is your encouragement and support. Remember, the Police remains your friend.”

The Zonal PPRO denied surge in crime and criminality since the Zone was created, adding that it has effectively performed the statutory role in supervision and operational command.

Lafieghe opined that there is no statistics nor facts at the command’s disposal to support the claim on increase in crime and criminality.

According to her; “Are there facts and figures to prove that there is an increase in crime/criminality?

“I am bold to say that since the creation of the Zone, with its supervisory and operational roles, crime rate in the two States have drastically reduced.

“The protection of lives and property covers all societal and human requirements to have a secured society and living.”

The Zonal Command image maker, denied the use of bathroom slippers, sticks as part of the Nigerian Police accoutrements.

On the incessant cases of sea piracy, she said; “The waters are well secured now with patrols by Marine Police, in addition to the conventional efforts.

“Today, with the community policing strategy, the trend is going down.”

She blamed members of the public for being reckless in handling financial transactions, which warrants being monitored by criminals and robbed afterwards.

“Such robberies take place outside the bank premises. In most cases, people are careless about handling their financial transactions by exposing such to people who in turn use it against them.”

The Zonal PPRO revealed that directives have been given to the State Commands under it to go after owners of vehicles used by alleged fake Taskforce members to perpetrate kidnapping and other heinous crimes.

According to her; “Directives have been passed to the Commands under Zone 16 (Rivers and Bayelsa) to embark on rigorous search/check for such vehicles.”
