The Ekpeye Oil and Gas Pipelines Host Families Association (EOG) wishes to thank the management of Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) for heeding to our call for rescue and assistance to ameliorate the sufferings of flood affected victims in Ekpeye ethnic nation.
The flood, though a natural occurrence, left many people homeless, means of livelihood of the rural dwellers affected and the economy of the land negatively impacted as farms were washed away, with its attendant hunger and sicknesses.
Based on the aforementioned reasons, EOG as a body saddled with the responsibility of correcting the long years of neglect, especially by the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and also to bring about development to our land, called on the IOCs, government agencies and public spirited individuals to come to the aid of the people affected to forestall possible strife and social vices that may be induced by circumstances of this nature.
While we continue to thumps up for NLNG for writing its name on the sand of history, we urge it to do more to find a lasting solution to the perennial flooding, since the effect would have been curtailed but for the human induced impediments.
We further use this medium to once again call on other IOCs – Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Total Elf, Agip, NDPR, Power Gas, to live up to its Corporate Social Responsibilities to assist its host families cum communities.
It is only a wicked conscience that can ride on the blood of a people to make wealth, which is what the blunt refusal of some of the oil and gas companies portray.
EOG once again wishes to reiterate its avowed resolve to correct the long years of neglect by the IOCs. And no form of detraction by enemies of our land will make us toe the infamous path of looking the other way, while our common wealth, destiny is pilfered and destroyed by few.
