Bayelsa to Reopen Schools on October 5th
1 min readBayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri,has directed both public and private schools in the State to resume for academic activities from Monday, October 5th, 2020.
This follows the flattening of the Covid-19 curve in the state.
The directive was given after the Committee on Safe Re-Opening of Schools met with the Governor in Government House, Yenagoa.
Commisioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mr Ayibanua Duba, disclosed that the reopening of schools for third term would enable students cover lost grounds as a result of long closure of schools due to the pandemic since March this year.
Hon. Duba said, “The third term would terminate on December 18, 2020 and the new academic session would commence in January.”
The Commisioner also said that government had directed the closure of private schools operating below government approved standards, adding that the decision was taken to protect students from learning under dirty environment which might expose them to Covid-19 and other infections.
