Police Forcefully Evicts 85 years old Soldier

Police in Kaduna State have been accused of beating, forceful eviction of an 85 years old retired Nigerian soldier, Paul Ojo and his family from his house.

Paul Ojo who retired as a Staff Sergeant in the Nigerian Army according to our correspondent was chased alongside his 75 year-old wife and children without any previous notice or order from the court.

The report has it that the incident happened on Tuesday at L2 Kasupda Quarters, Kabala Costa in, Kaduna.

The Police team which was led by a supol, one DSP Ahmed reportedly ignored the call by Mr. Paul to show them an order from the court requesting their immediate eviction, but rather went ahead to throw out his properties.

The house in question according to available documents was bidded and bought from the government by Paul Ojo who had paid the sum of N235,000 which represents 10% of the total sum.

Ojo who had paid the first 10 percent installment out of the three installments of10, 25 and 65 percent respectively was said to had wanted to pay the second installment but was asked to hold on.

According to a court document with suit No. KDH.KAD/904/2017 between Paul Ojo (plaintiff) and Kaduna State Governor, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and Committee on the sale of residential Houses in Kaduna as 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants respectively, made available to our correspondent, Paul had told the court that he is the rightful owner of the house according to the auction of the Kaduna State Government residential quarters.

In an interview with Paul Ojo’s lawyer, Kimi Livingstone Appah by our correspondent, he disclosed that the matter concerning the said property was already before the court and that though they have closed their case, the state government represented by one Tahir Ladan refused to open defence.

The lawyer also confirmed that his client was assaulted by the police.

“When we met Samuel Madaki who is the leader of the team that you cannot do this and it is wrong, he told us to go to hell that as far as the governor had given order, he was following the directives.

“In my presence they were beaten, the old man who just came from the hospital. He was dragged on the floor like a goat. He is an hypertension patient and has leg problem.

“They also beat up his 75 year-old wife and arrested two of his sons, Isaac and Michael. They were detained in the police station for 10 hours.

However, further investigation by our correspondent revealed that the Kaduna State Solicitor-General, Chris Umar allegedly authorized Paul’s eviction and delegated one Samuel Madaki to lead the operation.
