Edo Election: Ize-Iyamu Faces Disqualification Threat

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted an ex-parte motion for substituted service on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.

A Chieftain of the APC, Barr. Charles Ude had dragged his party and its gubernatorial candidate before the court in a suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/839/2020. Ude is seeking the disqualification of Ize-Iyamu as the candidate of the APC in the Edo election. He maintains that the party did not conduct a legally recognized primaries to choose its candidate.
During the commencement of hearing, neither the APC nor its candidate made an appearance. This prompted the plaintiff to file for an ex-parte to serve the defendants through substituted means, a prayer which Justice Taiwo Taiwo granted.
The hearing of the matter is billed for September 1, during which the court is expected to give a ruling on the disqualification suit.
The defendants in the suit include the APC, Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Adams Oshiomhole, Victor Giadom and Hillard Etta.
